The Spanish National Police (Policía Nacional de España) conducted a fourteen-month investigation known as Operation Kraken (Operación Kraken) that concluded in early July 2022. It resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of narcotics, cash, aerial drones using for smuggling purposes, and three drone submarines—the first to ever have ever been identified—in various stages of being built. An independent (mercenary) group centered in the Castellar de la Frontera region of Cádiz, Spain intended to sell the narco submarines to a French gang trafficking cocaine across the Strait of Gibraltar...
