On 19 February 2026 Dawson Noah Maloney—after driving across the country over several days from Albany, NY—attempted an attack on a U.S. power substation near Las Vegas, NV. The attack failed after Maloney drove his rental car through the fenceline of the substation and crashed into large industrial wire spools, preventing him from any further intentions he may have had. It was reported that he then died via a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigations are in the early stages, so limited information as to his motives and/or driving ideology(ies) is available. The weapons and materials he had on hand—including flamethrowers and thermite—indicate the incident had the makings of a more complex terrorist attack, while mental illness is also a major factor in play.
