On Sunday, 15 May 2022, about forty parishioners belonging to the Irvine Taiwanese Presbyterian Church were targeted in a domestic terrorism incident taking place in Laguna Woods, California. The perpetrator, sixty-eight year old David Wenwei Chou, from Las Vegas, Nevada, was subdued by the parishioners, resulting in one dead and five critically wounded. Chou represents a new form of affinity ‘One China’ policy active shooter. The incident crosses a firebreak with it being the first of its kind identified to have taken place in the United States and inspired by United Front Work Department (UFWD) influence operations.
