The Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) has been going through a process of IED bomblet development as part of their evolving drone weaponization capabilities, taking place since at least October 2017. Of note is how this process is often missed in news and governmental reporting which typically focuses on cartel arms and munitions seizures without placing the IED(s) within the broader weaponization context. As a result, the actual significance of the seizure is not identified. This recent seizure of CJNG drone IED bomblets is a case in point.
