Since February 2024, three narco submarines (aka narcosubs) with the capability of sailing 10,000 miles directly from Colombia to Australia have now been interdicted in the Pacific Ocean and off the coast of Colombia. The projected appearance of these narcosubs has been discussed for some time given the immense profits which can be generated due to the street price of cocaine in Australia which is about $240,000.00 a kilogram. Two of the narcosubs seized were carrying 4 and 5 metric tons of cocaine with a street value of $.96 billion and $1.2 billion, respectively. The emergence of trans-Pacific narcosubs comes some years after trans-Atlantic narcosubs—which navigate about half that distance—first ventured to Africa and Europe in the later 2010s.[1]
