Dr. Robert J. Bunker, C/O Futures, LLC, Director of Research & Analysis, participated in the UN CTED (United Nations Counter Terrorism Executive Directorate) x NYU (New York University) Workshop Roundtable 8 December 2022 as an expert speaker. The workshop was held in New York City (and virtually) and supports a project centered on future terrorist use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). A report facilitated by NYU in collaboration with the CTED will be forthcoming and will discuss the findings of the research project and supporting workshop event.
Dr. Bunker was an early researcher and analyst focusing on terrorist use of drones while serving as the Futurist in Residence (FIR), Behavioral Research and Instruction Unit (BRIU), FBI Academy Quantico, VA in 2015. He also engaged in earlier terrorist and criminal drone use research as a component of his duties as Distinguished Visiting Professor and Minera Chair, Strategic Studies Institute (SSI), US Army War College, Carlisle, PA in 2012-2014 focusing on a multi-year Dark Globalization research project. He has since been involved in studies focused on Islamic State (IS) use of weaponized drones and later Mexican cartel use of weaponized drones. His counter-drone activities include red teaming, threat characterization, field experiments, and more recently the provision of law enforcement ‘weaponized drone threat’ classroom training.
